Hi friends,
On one of my last culinary tours through the Piedmont, a breathtakingly gorgeous and premier wine region in Northern Italy, I got a tip from someone at the farmer's market that the local butcher, Rocco, had just foraged some fabulous truffles and might be willing to sell them. Long story short, Rocco guided me past primal cuts and aging beef to the back of his shop and handed over a bag with three of the most aromatic truffles. Ahhhh- heaven on earth!
We negotiated a price and I hid them in my purse before exiting through the back door into an alley. Maybe I'm exaggerating this exciting scavenger hunt, but, the reward--shaving fresh truffles on ribbon-like tagliolini pasta and pouring lusciously aromatic Barolo wine for my guests at our private villa--was magical!
