Culinary Tour to the Island of Crete, Greece
October 15-21, 2024
Have you ever visited a place that captured your heart? I tend to fall in love with so many parts of our world, and the idyllic island of Crete, Greece, has been at the top of my “must return to” lists for years. I can’t think of a better way to make it happen than to invite you to join me there in 2024!
Imagine sweeping, majestic landscapes where soaring snow-capped mountains with deep ravines and dark caves alternate with fertile valleys, olive groves, and sugary beaches with crystal-clear blue waters. It's like a never-ending dance of natural beauty!
Then picture our home for the week-- a 17th-century village lovingly converted into a unique hotel. Listed as a member of the Historic Hotels of Europe, this property has a story as rich as the land upon which it's built. Formerly a tiny Monastic settlement, the community housed people working the land's rich soil and olive mill. With modern amenities and a beautiful, serene landscape, this will be a perfect place to rest for our adventures
During our week together, we'll join my friend, Isabella, who just happens to be a local food-writer and storyteller! She and I will lead you on roads less traveled where we can immerse ourselves in Greece's cultural and culinary richness. We'll explore an ancient world while tasting delicious wine from centuries-old Cretan varietals. One day, we can take a turn at pottery making or visit a wild herbs specialist and forage ingredients for our lunch!
Then, we'll cook local specialties with the island's incredibly fresh ingredients and sumptuous cheeses. Enjoying one of Europe's finest mild climates, this island features a bounty of olives, grapes, meats and fish, and together, they make the island's gastronomy one of the healthiest and most delicious in the world!
To top off our week, we must go to Chania, where we'll find a 14th-century harbor, complete with a 16th-century lighthouse and gorgeous architecture with Venetian, Egyptian, and Ottoman influences.
The Island of Crete offers something for everyone, and I am so excited to meet you there!
