I’m so excited to share this Series with you and hope Plates & Places transports you the way it has for me and my crew!
CreateTV

The experiences we had in filming this show were incredible, and we are delighted to share them, virtually, with you! Imagine spit roasting a whole lamb in the outdoor kitchen high above the glistening Kini Beach, and sitting down to enjoy it with friends, on the island of Syros, Greece! Or, just outside Naples, Italy, tasting a freshly picked San Marzano tomato with the best fresh milk mozzarella doused with olive oil and sprinkled with sweet basil leaves. And how about perusing the market in search of the finest paprika in Budapest, or swirling a delicious glass of Syrah as the sun sets across the valley in Washington wine country?!  Everywhere we filmed, I felt completely immersed and I could not think of anything else.

I have to admit that during filming, sometimes this sense of immersion got me into a little trouble. Like our 3-day shoot in Walla Walla, Washington, I fell in love with the place, especially how this rural wine-making community honors breakfast. I called Joe and half-kiddingly told him I wanted to move to Walla Walla, for the Beignets! I should probably forget about looking at Zillow, and stick with making scones at home for now.

And then there was one particular day while we filmed in Austria. You see, wherever I travel, I am on the hunt for local specialties, and evidently, Salzburg is known for these amazing chocolates, named after their most gifted composer, Mozart. So, while the crew was taking what seemed like an eternity to set up the cameras, I ran off and got lost looking for the famous Mozartkugeln. Imagine— little marzipan balls dipped into praline cream and dipped into bittersweet chocolate! So, when I finally found them, at the most exquisite little shop with the nicest woman serving up the delicate treats, I realized it was worth getting into trouble! Plus, as you’ll see in the episode, with its Baroque architecture and general prettiness, Salzburg is a lovely place in which to be “lost”!

But these escapades are exactly the kinds of experiences that can inspire us. Travel can transport us, but so can food and with each episode of Plates & Places, I hope you find some inspiration, and recipes, that take you to these wonderful culinary destinations!
