"Mother love is the fuel that enables a normal human being to do the impossible."
—Marion C. Garretty
There’s nothing like a mother’s love and this Mother’s Day, I’m thinking back to my childhood and reminded of just how special that love can be.
One memory that stands out is a day when I was about 8 or 9 years old and I had decided to surprise my mom and make a batch of oatmeal cookies. My mom LOVED sweets, and being a professional chef herself, she was an incredible baker.
All was going well with the cookies until I opened the oven door to look in, and they had completely overflowed the pan and spilled all the way down to the floor of the oven. I scrambled to get them out of the oven just as my mom walked into the kitchen. Of course, she quickly figured out what had gone wrong - an empty baking soda box was a good clue. Seems I’d used 1 ½ cups baking soda instead of 1 ½ teaspoons. Let’s just say that they were not my finest work, but what I remember most about that day is mom's supportive reaction.
"They still taste good, honey” my mom said. Nothing like a mother's love to buck up a budding pro! I can still hear her voice and encouraging words…
To all of the moms out there, here’s wishing you a very Happy Mother’s Day! And to the kids, how about showing mom just how remarkable she is by baking up something sweet?
With love,
