‘Tis the season for cookies and who doesn’t love them??! Actually, I love cookies so much that I even took my crew to Europe in search of the best ones for the “Plates & Places” Cookie episode!! We sampled our way from Amsterdam to Italy and discovered some new favorites, like Aglaia’s Almond cookies on the Greek Island of Kea and the scrumptious Stroopwaffles we tasted in the cafés of Amsterdam.
But for me, the prize for the master of cookie-making award goes to my mother, especially during the holidays! Each Christmans, she’d bake dozens upon dozens of Christmas cookies and there would always be a delicious array of snickerdoodles, spiced hermits, chocolate crinkles and sugar cookies. They would disappear almost as fast as she made them!
I definitely caught the “baking bug” from my mom and it’s one of my favorite things to do during the season, especially when I get to do a cookie exchange with friends and families! This year, I thought I’d try my hand at making her famous Whoopie Pies- two cake-like chocolate cookies held together with gooey vanilla frosting. Now if that doesn’t take me back to my childhood!
And since this is a great time of year for sharing, join me for a “Virtual Cookie Exchange Party”! I’m sharing some of my favorite cookie recipes and I would LOVE to see what YOU are baking!! And since it’s also a great time for giving, my elves and I have created a special contest on Instagram just for fun! Get out your measuring spoons and head on over to my Instagram @chefjoanneweir for the details on how to enter. I’ve got something really special in store for you (hint: Check this out!)
Need some inspiration? Here are some of the recipes I’ll be making this year:
