Provençal Picnic
Bonjour mon ami!

Joe and I arrived in Paris last week for a quick vacation with friends and as much as we enjoyed its incredible bistros and one over-the-top dinner at Bertrand Grébaut's Septime, what we’re really craving is a picnic, Provence- style!  From farm tables draped in antique linens to local cheeses, charcuterie, loaves of fougasse and delicious wine, the French really know how to turn a simple outdoor meal into an amazingly delicious work of art.  Of course having a sweeping hillside vineyard as a backdrop doesn’t hurt.

Our dream meal consists of a melt-in-your-mouth onion “pizza” called Pissaladière, cured olives, a salad of beans dressed in a classic vinaigrette with herbs and goat cheese, and a succulent dessert made with the freshest fruit.  Oh, and wine!!  A fresh, fruity, bone-dry rosé from Provence, of course.  And since we’re dreaming, maybe there’s a wine truck and it rolls up to meet us at our spot in the vineyard…

We’ll see if we can find a way to make this happen before heading back, but with sunny days waiting for us in San Francisco, I’ve got some recipes ready to easily create our own Provençal picnic at home. Here’s what I have in mind:

What do you think?

Bon Appetit,
