Warm up with my winter soup & stew recipes
Happy New Year to you! I can’t believe it’s 2011? I also can’t believe how cold it’s been in San Francisco. Even though I grew up in New England, I’ve lived here so long I’ve developed the California “it’s-cold-if-you-have-to-put-a-coat-on” mentality. We’ve had record lows here (I know, I know, 40 degrees is not that cold), which has inspired me to make a lot of winter soups and stews. This season I got really inspired to make a carrot, split pea, coriander, cumin and cardamom soup. I garnished with crème fraiche and coriander oil I made by crushing the seeds and infusing them in warm olive oil. It is so good that I’ve made it for every dinner party this season. And I’m so sorry that this will have to serve as your recipe as I’ve yet to write one. But I do have some others that I love, whether you’re having a casual family dinner or need to feed a bunch of hungry football fans on a Sunday afternoon, here you go. And the best part, freeze whatever you have leftover!
Later this month look out for another newsletter with details about my upcoming Pizza & Pasta Weekend Workshop in San Francisco. You’ll be a pro afterwards and have fun doing it!

Stay warm,
Joanne Weir
