Tuscany, Italy October 15-21 2012
A week in Provence
I have had a decades long love affair with Italy, during which time I became a passionate collector of "maiolica" — the hand-painted ceramics dating back to the Renaissance. My kitchen and dining room are full of them and my students always ask about them. During this week, I’ll take you to my friend Romano Rampini’s ceramics studio in Chianti where we’ll see artists at work painting in the same tradition from centuries ago.

I have planned so many special visits for our week together in Tuscany. Experiences and artisans you won’t find in guidebooks or on tourist maps. We’ll walk from our beautiful country resort, Villa Il Leccio, into the village to visit a pasta factory for a demonstration and tasting. I’ll introduce you to a master goldsmith trained in the Florentine tradition. Our hands-on classes will be held in both the professional kitchen and original hearth kitchen where we’ll grill Bistecca alla Fiorentina over a wood fire. Of course we’ll taste incredible Chianto Classico wines and sample the greenest of olive oil from local mills. And did I mention that we’ll eat the most incredible meal cooked by the most famous Tuscan butcher who sings and quotes Dante? It will be a week of delicious surprises!
