I am so excited to announce my 2011 Culinary Journeys to Marrakech, Morocco and La Rioja and the Basque Country, Spain!
On my first trip to Marrakech, Morocco I was writing my first book, From Tapas to Meze, and I absolutely fell in love with the delicious flavors, vibrant colors, incredible history and wonderful people. After years of searching, I finally found the perfect location to host one of my most exotic culinary journeys ever – in Marrakech! Jnane Tamsna will be our luxurious home for the week, surrounded by lush date palm trees and edible organic gardens. Our hands-on cooking classes will be led by myself and the talented house chef at Jnane, and you’ll learn how to make all kinds of traditional tagines (stews), roll couscous by hand, and bake rounds of Berber-style bread in clay ovens. We will visit an olive mill, taste local Moroccan wines (their rosés are fantastic!), tour the famous souks (markets) for spices, ceramics, leather goods, fabrics and more. We will tour the Atlas Mountains, eat under the light of a million candles, and immerse ourselves in Moroccan cuisine and culture. Just fly into Marrakech and we’ll take care of the rest. This is a once in a lifetime experience!
I am equally excited to take you to La Rioja and the Basque Country in Spain, home to Spain’s (and some of the world’s) finest red wines. During this week we will explore La Rioja, spend a full day in San Sebastián and explore the Basque Country. We’ll stay at Hospederia Señorío de Casalarreina, a completely restored monastery from the 16th century, with all the amenities of a 20th century boutique hotel in the heart of the Spanish wine country. Our cooking classes will be held at my dear friend Angel’s incredible restaurant, La Vieja Bodega where we’ll prepare tons of different Spanish tapas, have a paella party, and drink amazing wines from neighboring vineyards. We’ll visit the world’s largest wine museum, Bodegas Dinastía Vivanco, tour the town of Haro, known for its local wine festival, walk around the medieval city of Laguardia, visit the top Rioja wine producers, and go tapas hopping at every opportunity! Fly into Bilbao and we’ll take care of you from there. I can’t wait for you to join me for this amazing week of food and wine in Spain!
The price of each trip includes all food, wine, cooking classes, accommodations and excursions during the week.
